Ruth Colvin Speaks

Meet a 100 year old Literacy Hero!

We invite you to hear a talk by Ruth Colvin, the mother of the adult literacy movement. She founded Literacy Volunteers of America (now ProLiteracy) in 1962. For over five decades, Ruth Colvin has worked tirelessly to help adults learn to read in over 60 countries around the world.She has authored several books and has been inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame. She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush in 2006.

 There will also be a panel of adult learners sharing their experiences.

Free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. No RSVPs needed.

This free event is jointly hosted by Read Santa Clara, the adult literacy program of the Santa Clara City LIbrary and Partners in Reading, the adult literacy program of the San Jose Public Library.
