How to Find a Santa Clara County Obituary
Search the following newspaper databases on the library’s website. They are free with your Santa Clara City Library card.
- San Jose Mercury News covering June 1, 1985, to the present
- San Jose Mercury and Evening News Historical Archives covering 1884-1922
Need another year or it wasn’t in the databases?
Visit the Central Park Library during our open hours to use our San Jose Mercury News microfilm from August 1869 - December 2011. Some dates are missing; please see our inventory list for a detailed account. Our microfilm collection is located on the second floor of the Library by the Heritage Pavilion. Please bring a USB to save your microfilm clippings.
You can also visit the California Room at the San Jose Public Library, 150 E. San Fernando St., San Jose and search their historic San Jose newspapers on microfilm.
You are not local? It is inconvenient?
- Use your local library’s interlibrary loan service to order microfilm of the San Jose Mercury News and other California newspapers (some back to 1850) from the California State Library.
