The Adult New Reader (ANR) Collection has easy-to-read books for adults who wish to strengthen their basic reading skills. This collection is often used by adult literacy learners and volunteer tutors in Read Santa Clara, the adult literacy program of the Santa Clara City Library. However, anyone is welcome to use the ANR materials.

 Adult New Reader Collections are available at all three Santa Clara City Library locations, with the largest collection offered on the second floor at the Central Park Library.

Books in the Adult New Reader collection have colored dots on their spines to help readers select books at a comfortable reading level.

Fiction books are arranged by the author’s last name. Some books have a category sticker for mystery, romance, graphic novels, etc.

 Nonfiction books are arranged by call number. Some books have a category sticker for biography, sports, health, etc.

 Writings by Adult Learners

Included in this category is the series of In Our Own Words books written by adult students in the Read Santa Clara program.

Tutoring resources, including books on learning differences and teaching strategies, are found in this section.
