Literacy Volunteer Orientation

Teach an adult to read. You'll be amazed at what you learn!

Each year, Read Santa Clara's volunteer tutors provide one-on-one and small group tutoring to over 100 English-speaking adults in the community, helping them improve their basic literacy skills in order to achieve their goals as family members, workers, community members and lifelong learners.

We invite you to attend an orientation to learn how you can share the gift of reading with others. Volunteers attend an orientation and 12.5 hours of tutor training before being matched with adult learners. The next round of training will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:30-9:00 p.m., at the Central Park Library on 5/2, 5/4, 5/9. 5/11 and 6/15. No prior teaching experience is needed to become a tutor. Volunteer tutors need to be 18 years or older, proficient in speaking, reading and writing English, and commit to tutoring an adult learner at least two hours a week for a minimum of six months.

Please call (408) 615-2956 or email readsantaclara@santaclaraca.gov to sign up for an orientation.
