Junior Investment Club seeks to teach teens how to invest wisely for adulthood. **You must be able to attend all 3 sessions as teamwork is required:
Session 1: Create Your Portfolio
Monday, July 9 from 7-8:30 pm
Saving and investing is a mystery to most teens. Teen attendees will learn about the myriad of investment strategies including stocks, mutual funds, bonds, certificate of deposit, very brief introduction to cryptocurrency, and the cyclical value of money. Teams will be formed and they will be able to create their own portfolio based on their chosen age, gender, and life circumstances.
Session 2: Life Circumstances, Taxes, and Portfolio Tweaks
Monday, August 13 from 7-8:30 pm
While investment strategies can prove to be useful, sometimes life gets in the way of financial success. Taxes, age, family-life, big purchases can alter one's portfolio. Groups will also be able to "consult" with an investment guru to check on their portfolio status.
Session 3: Portfolio Supremacy and Graduation
Tuesday, September 11 from 7-8 pm
Our instructor will teach attendees how to transition their virtual portfolio to real-life investment success. We will find out which groups' portfolio did the best over the 3-month period and graduate our attendees!
THIS IS A CLOSED SESSION.
Attending teens have already been selected and have attended the first of three sessions. We will not accept any new attendees for this program. We want our teens to learn without parent interruptions and investment opinions, therefore, we will not allow parents in the room for Session 1 & 2. Parents are encouraged to attend Session 3 with their teens.
This program is sponsored by the Santa Clara City Library Foundation and Friends and Synocate.
