10 Steps To A Healthier You

The Healthier Kids Foundation and City of Santa Clara have partnered to present a three-workshop series on strategies for parents and caregivers to implement healthy lifestyles within their home environments as a means of preventing or reducing childhood and adolescent obesity.

Each workshop builds upon the previous one. It is recommended that you attend all three to receive the most benefit from this series.

Workshop I – ’10 Steps to a Healthier You'- March 25
Lifestyle Skills Training: Focus on lifestyle habits rather than body shape or weight; present PHLC's 10 Steps lifestyle recommendations; introduce the concept of trick foods; present visuals to demonstrate the amount of sugar and fat in processed foods; provide shopping strategies to facilitate bringing only healthy foods into the home; review and discuss the need to make lifestyle changes as a family; and review and discuss the process of behavior change.

Workshop- II – Developing Structure & Routines - April 1
Experiential approach to establishing structure in the home specifically related to mealtime and bedtime routines to support the implementation of the ’10 Steps to a Healthier You’; engage in activities that help families create and sustain routines; and discuss strategies for establishing effective communication between parents/caregivers and children and collaborative problem solving skills.

Workshop III – 5 Keys to Raising a Healthy, Happy Eater – Division of Responsibility - April 8
The division of responsibility for feeding young children with an expanded curriculum that will include an experiential component where participants experience the child’s perspective of being restricted or forced to eat.

Space is limited to 40 participants.
Each class is 90 minutes.
Childcare will be provided by Healthier Kids Foundation.

  • PLEASE EMAIL ORGANIZER (THROUGH EVENTBRITE) IF YOU ARE IN NEED OF CHILDCARE. WE NEED TO KNOW THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN FOR STAFFING PURPOSES.

  • IF TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT, YOU MAY CHOOSE TO ATTEND ON "STANDBY". (If someone with a ticket doesn't show, you may take their empty seat.)
