Celebrating Women’s History Month - Mexican American Contributions to San Jose

Nannette Regua will present this talk.  Her presentation is sponsored by the Nuevo Mundo Historical and Genealogical Society.

Nannette Regua, college history instructor, author, creator of the Chicana Oral History Project of Santa Clara Valley, will tell us about her research that culminated in the publication of Mexicans in San Jose in 2009.  The book documents through text and over 250 photographs the rich history of people of Mexican ancestry in San Jose.  It includes Mexican and Mexican American resistance to institutional discrimination, systematic police brutality, and a city government that ignored civil rights.  In honor of Women’s History month, her talk will accurately portray women’s roles and contributions, and expand our understanding of regional Chicana grassroots activism.  All are welcome, no registration required.
