ONLINE - Cognitive Reserve: How to maintain cognitive function in late adulthood

Dr. Kennedy will describe research that indicates how “cognitive reserve” can help stave off age-related declines in cognitive function and onset of dementia symptoms. She will cover everyday activities that can help build up cognitive reserve and free resources for additional information on cognitive aging.

Speaker: Dr. Quinn Kennedy earned a PhD in Psychology and completed postdoctoral training in Cognitive Aging, both at Stanford University. She has over 20 years of research experience in investigating factors that affect older adults’ decision making and performance. Her work has been published in peer reviewed publications including Psychological Science, Psychology of Aging, and Journals of Gerontology and presented at scientific conferences such as The Cognitive Aging Conference, Gerontological Society of America Annual Conference, and the International Neuropsychological Society Annual Conference. Dr. Kennedy is the recipient of the Richard Hamming Award for Interdisciplinary Research, the Margret M. Baltes Doctoral Dissertation Award in the Psychology of Aging, the National Science Foundation Minority Graduate Research Fellowship, and the National Institute of Health Research Minority Supplement Grant Award. Her research with the Stanford/VA Aviation Research Lab has informed public policy regarding the mandatory retirement age for commercial pilots as well as recommended guidelines for older pilots. With her collaborators, her work has been featured on Channel 2 news, APA Monitor, Aviation Week, NPR, The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and Science. She is a member of the Adult Development and Aging Division of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, the Gerontological Society of America, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
