The Santa Clara City Library is proud to have this special author's talk with dancer and nurse practitioner Andy A. Nguyen! We will talk to him about his new children's book The Day I Woke Up Different, and speak to him about how his influences in dance, nursing, and his personal history helped to shape this publication. We can't wait to have you all join us!
Bio:
Andy is an integrative health care provider, street dancer, and storyteller. He has spent over 16-years in the medical field with eleven in nursing previously in the intensive care units as a registered nurse, and now as a Bay Area-based nurse practitioner working with children, teens, and young adults who have autoimmune diseases. He specializes in integrating western medicine and mindfulness practices.
He has served as co-director to Northern California’s Juvenile Arthritis Camp, where he also runs a workshop teaching street and club dance styles as part of the curriculum. His dance journey spans over 20-years studying the cultures of Breaking (Breakdance), House dancing, and briefly Tap. He is part of the artist collective, Styles of Eon, and cofounder to the moving block party, Cypher Sundays SF, which has expanded to three other cities outside of San Francisco in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Portland.
Andy recently authored the adult-friendly children’s book, The Day I Woke Up Different, a story about bullying and self-acceptance through the lens of a Vietnamese-American boy. Outside of his work in the health sector, he has started 4th WORLD PRESS, an independent family-owned publishing company with his two cousins, and currently developing and finishing several narrative projects.
