TinyHacks is a student-run initiative that fosters design thinking mindsets and problem-solving skills in youth through hackathons and workshops. The TinyHacks Makeathon is a coding-free event where students can learn the basics of design thinking over the course of two days in teams of 3-4.
We are looking for mentors in high school or college, and volunteer hours will be provided by Northside Library. Mentors will be paired with 2-3 teams of middle-schoolers in order to help them through the design process. This means moving around breakout rooms to encourage active discussion and new ideas during the brainstorming phase and assisting them with prototyping if they have questions about TinkerCad or Figma.
Mentors will have to attend a brief orientation the week before the makeathon and will receive a comprehensive mentor guide to read through before the makeathon. Knowledge of TinkerCad or Figma isn’t required but is appreciated (information about both will be included in the mentor guide).
Eventbrite Registration required!
