"Walking Amongst the Dead: Becoming a Cemetery Expert" Presented by Gena Philibert-Ortega

  • Date: 06/15/2021 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

For family history researchers, cemeteries hold clues to the lives of our ancestors, but there is more to cemetery research than just finding a death date and a gravestone. Cemeteries and gravestones provide important clues that can be uncovered from their history, location, and engravings. In this presentation, Gena will discuss the history of cemeteries in the United States and the types of cemeteries that exist. She will help us learn to better examine records documenting death and burials and learn to better interpret all the information we discover in our cemetery research.

Gena Philibert-Ortega is a professional genealogist who has researched cemeteries for many years. She is the author of “Cemeteries of the Eastern Sierra” and has conducted several webinars on various topics with Legacy Family Tree Webinars.

Our monthly meetings are free and open to the public. To attend, you must register in advance at https://tinyurl.com/y3b8yyh7.

This program is provided by the Santa Clara County Historical & Genealogical Society.
