Bio:
Matt Stonie is a competitive eater, world record holder, and YouTuber born and raised in San Jose, California. Since 2010, Matt has competed in numerous competitive eating contests all across the country, most notably for the Nathan’s Hotdog Eating Contest, where in 2015 he won first place against fellow San Jose champion Joey Chestnut.
Over the years he has broken new world records for eating and has garnered a following of over 14 million subscribers on his YouTube channel where he combines popular culture, food, and community engagement into a spectacle of intense challenges and pure entertainment.
In his own words: “I’m a competitive eater born and raised in San Jose, California. As a student at Mission College in Santa Clara, California, I study nutrition and plan to become a dietitian. Most people think that as a competitive eater, I just sit around eating what I want all day. The truth is, to win all those challenges, you have to train hard and know what you’re eating.
In 2010, at 17-years-old I entered a local lobster roll eating contest in Hampton Beach, NH; and ten minutes later I was $1000 richer, but more importantly, it was the dawning of my career as a competitive eater. As it stands right now, I’m currently one of the best players in the game and committed to being one of the greatest ever.
Succeeding as a competitive eater comes down to one major element: Preparation. Self-care is a major part of the game. Those few minutes I spend on stage during a contest requires hours and hours of physical training, mental discipline, and special dieting.”
