Adult and child reading together at a family literacy event

Families for Literacy

Learners in Read Santa Clara's adult literacy program who have a young child or grandchild can join the Families for Literacy Program (FFL). Learners and their families participate in monthly family nights at the library which include dinner, story times, songs, crafts and gift books.

“My kids are very motivated to read thanks to this program. We read every single book given to us by the library over and over again." - FFL parent

Family Literacy Outreach

Read Santa Clara delivers family literacy services outside the library to programs including:
- Montague State Preschool and Scott Lane State Preschool
- HomeSafe, a housing facility for survivors of domestic violence
- Family Resource Center, Santa Clara Unified School District
- Migrant Education Program, Santa Clara Unified School District

Early literacy and family learning are encouraged through story times, puppets, book giveaways, engaging hands-on activities such as bookmaking, and preschool family math workshops that feature early math literacy kits in English and Spanish.

This outreach is made possible by the Santa Clara City Library Foundation and Friends.
